I'm dealing with a GA-F2A88X-D3H motherboard and an X4 860k. It's been a while since I worked with Gigabyte boards, and the strange beep codes are puzzling. I usually don't deal with these kinds of systems, and neither did Google. I'm trying to figure out if others have faced this issue. The pattern is unclear: it starts with four longer beeps, then a higher pitch for the fifth, followed by three short beeps at that same higher pitch. *I mean longer than the usual quick bursts, but definitely not the standard length.* I've tried everything—removing the case, using different RAM kits from G.Skill, Patriot, and Timetec (all 8GB DIMMs), swapping the CPU to an A10-7850k. Still getting the same problem. The only guess is the board might not support 8GB RAM modules. I have another FM2 board now, so I'll test those CPUs there to eliminate that possibility... but both seem to be having trouble. Any ideas?
Can you access the BIOS settings or determine the current BIOS version installed on your board? The Athlon X4 860K is compatible with BIOS version F5 and later releases. If your unit uses an older BIOS release, that could be the issue—this model was initially released for FM2 CPUs (860K uses FM2+). The A10-7850K also fits FM2+, requiring BIOS versions from F3 onward. Ensure your BIOS is current enough; otherwise, you may encounter difficulties. The board can handle up to 64GB of RAM across four DIMM slots, so adding an 8GB stick should work fine. However, test booting with just one RAM module to confirm.
Thanks for your response. It seems there was no video output. Interestingly, I reached a similar conclusion earlier—FM2+ CPUs were only listed in the BIOS changelog after the second release. I assumed it wouldn't be supported on F1, but I didn’t check the BIOS support section as you did. If support wasn’t available until F3 or later, it’s likely it was on F1/2. I’ve been testing an 8GB stick from three different brands, but nothing worked. It looks like the issue might be related to the BIOS. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way to flash this without an older processor, so I’m starting the search now!
