This Dell E6420 laptop is no longer functioning properly.
I swapped out the CPU in my Dell E5420 laptop. It started up normally but required updating the BIOS settings. Once I exited the BIOS, the screen displayed it was active yet there was no display, and the HDD light kept flickering. I looked up the issue and found it mentioned a configuration time of up to 15 minutes. After about 45 minutes with no changes, I shut down the system. Now it won’t power on at all. Did I do something wrong? I’m having trouble finding a solution for this problem. Thanks in advance for any advice.
The device came with a specific CPU model, and you replaced it with another one.
The Intel Core i5-2520M was present, and I swapped it out for an Intel Core I7-2760QM. My prior research confirmed its compatibility. The BIOS has also been updated to the latest release. Hope this is useful.
Did you try restoring the previous chip and check if it revived the device? If successful, then the laptop isn't suited for that newer chip or you may have damaged the mainboard.
haven't attempted that before. I plan to try it tomorrow and will report back with the outcome. Thanks
