Considering options for my old i3-2100 workstation, I’ve been weighing a media NAS upgrade. Some suggested keeping it as-is, but its storage is limited to one HDD. That led me to explore this setup idea...

I’m looking at the 4600G ($157) ASRock A320M-DVS R4.0 board ($45 on sale), which supports M.2 and Renoir slots. It pairs with a 1TB SN570 M.2 drive (already owned) and a 6TB WD Black HDD (also owned). I have protection plans for 240GB and 4-year coverage.

This configuration seems to offer more storage than the current i3-2100 while staying under a substantial SSD price. What do you think?

Uncertain about the response! Any option works better than a 2100. I’m in favor of it. Particularly if you have some 200 dollars to spend on updating the BIOS for the 4600G.

Do you mean this board requires a BIOS upgrade? The 200GE refers to a specific model or version of the device.

200ge equals to ²c⁴t. The main CPU model works with every board and BIOS version, including recovery support and everyday use.

I don’t possess that item, though I have a 1700 in the current setup. That might be useful for a BIOS upgrade if required.

Confirm the 1700 specification is accurate, though verify it carefully. Many B450 panels lack the 4600G rating included by default.

I’d prefer to add about $20 more for a B550 board that’s a little improved as well.

I also thought about using a B550 model, but honestly, I’m not sure it will really change things much for this application.

Your setup will start up successfully. The A320 model isn't assured to function with a 4000-series chip.
