Hey everyone, I spotted a great offer on the ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS for €101. It's brand new and comes with a three-year warranty. The deal looks appealing, but I'm still unsure if it's worth it right now. I plan to switch to an AM5 motherboard once the Ryzen 8000 CPUs and the new B750 chipset are released. My current setup uses a second M.2 slot in SATA6 mode with a 2TB P5 Plus drive, which is barely functioning. The main concern is the brand – Asus has been my least trusted choice over the past 13 years, so I'm not very familiar with their products. How does this board compare to others and is it a solid value for around €100? Also, just a note – it will be installed from my signature, so it includes the 5800X3D and 32GB DDR4 RAM.
It's a budget option. It's not bad, especially considering the power consumption of AM4 CPUs (like X3D), so it should work just fine—though you shouldn't get much performance out of it. Regarding the price, it's reasonable for 100 euros based on what I anticipate. It's not impressive, but since AM4 boards are no longer widely available, there aren't many alternatives left, and you probably won't find a significantly better one. If you're thinking about upgrading your CPU or motherboard later (Ryzen 8000 is coming soon), this seems unnecessary right now. Just continue using your current setup; motherboard upgrades rarely justify the cost.
Thanks everyone... I thought it was better since some online reviews suggest it’s at least a higher tier board. That’s why I got mixed up. I’m completely new to Asus products—just updating info about the really bad ones I should steer clear from (like the 7800X3D with exploding mobos or the poor QC on the RTX X060 cards).
The Tier classification seems inconsistent in this discussion. The Prime B550 Plus appears to be listed as both Tier A and Tier D, which is confusing. Some reviews claim it outperforms the TUF GAMING B550-PLUS, also Tier A, making it unclear why one version would have better power delivery than another.
