I updated the plan to use the credit or debit card, but my mom warned me that if she uses hers, I won’t get anything for Christmas. So I’m skipping it.

The $5 threshold exists due to the expense of charging lower amounts. Payment networks apply a fee for every transaction, which is reflected in store minimums.

This would have been my response too. Because the same applies, a monthly subscription to these sites costs $5 CAD. The original Steam crate keys were $2.49 each, so you’d receive two with a single payment.

Sure, I once faced a similar challenge while playing CSGO. It was surprising how much cash you needed to carry instead of relying solely on your credit card.
