Following a Federal Court ruling in the USA that ordered COX Communications to pay $1 billion due to insufficient protection of copyrights, many ISPs seem focused on protecting their own interests. Mega emerged as the successor to Megaupload, a known piracy hub that was shut down by the US DOJ. In reality, whether you're in one part of the world or another, your ISP could be legally required to block such sites. While Mega might serve legitimate needs and BitTorrent too, the main issue remains its association with piracy activities.
I discovered a free VPN called "VPN Gate." For Firefox, you can use an add-on to whitelist this site, allowing other sites to function normally while only routing traffic through the VPN for that specific page. Alternatively, you might need to install a dedicated VPN client for Windows to manage it.
Enable the service and restart Windows for changes to apply. Your DNS settings will update to 127.0.0.1, and all requests will go through simplednscrypt. As far as I understand, encrypted DNS remains secure, so your ISP can't monitor your traffic. If you need a VPN just to hide your activity, try 1.1.1.1 Cloudflare VPN – it's free forever.
They provide a VPN service named Cloudflare WARP, integrated into the mobile app. I wasn’t expecting it for PC, though the site indicates it was introduced later. https://1.1.1.1 https://blog.cloudflare.com/1111-warp-better-vpn/
That's fine, I don't mind paying in data, as I said, I just want an easier solution than having to wait 2 minutes to boot up Tor every time I want to download a 10Mb file. But again, this makes ALL websites go through that dns right? Because I really don't want that. I need to still do video calls and competitive gaming and having to restart my computer each time to turn off the VPN is way worse than 2 minutes of booting up Tor
cloudflare warp operates in three modes: 1.1.1.1 using only DNS, warp (free random VPN server - default setting) and warp+ (paid VPN with choice of servers). It functions as a VPN. You can confirm this by launching it and verifying your IP address has changed (https://whatismyipaddress.com/). Support is now available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. I currently have it installed on my computer.
I didn’t realize at first. I assumed I was correct until I noticed the changes on the site.
