I once had a damaged Windows 7 installation from a friend, but after losing it, I tried Windows 10 Pro with an enterprise key from another friend—things didn’t work (error 0x8007232b). Now I’m considering purchasing a genuine Windows key, possibly from reputable sources like G2A, MMOGA, or Kinguin. I’m curious if these are legitimate and whether buying directly from Microsoft for around 150€ is something people do. Also, do you think most of these keys are OEM or available in retail stores?

I acquired them via a friend in IT using bulk licensing. I've bought from Dealscube, Bonanza, and Kinguin.

The software swap community on Reddit is quite strong. I don’t personally rely on G2A or similar platforms, though it functions well.

They say kinguin is genuine, though I tend to stick with the original from Microsoft whenever possible. My Windows 7 install originated from a friend who created a recovery drive from an older machine and provided me with an extra product key.

I received it at no cost from my high school and am allowed to retain it despite leaving that institution.

I received mine from school, which was a college program. They provided DreamSpark accounts (now no longer available), containing keys for various Microsoft products including Windows 7. When Windows 8 came out, it was also offered free on those accounts, so I now have Windows 7 (upgraded to 10) and a Windows 8 key. All I had to do was complete the registration form.

I’d like to talk about it, though I’m worried it might break the rules. So yeah…

It's been a long time since then, and those links are no longer available. The location has changed too.

You've been going through the process, but why not take it seriously and face the consequences? Those low-cost versions are from grey market and OEM sources. It's surprising you're still asking such questions after admitting to piracy.
