They're referred to as 'heatsinks,' which the motherboard in the top photo retains; however, they're significantly smaller. It's unclear why this manufacturer doesn't include them on their 'version' of the board, likely due to cost considerations.

these are minor subassemblies that OEMs rely on. they're known as heatinks, which help regulate the MOSFETs.

I think the bigger heatsinks appear more attractive, yet the compact ones could offer greater surface area because of their fins. It seems they might improve airflow, but only real testing would confirm this.

For that particular motherboard, problems could be minimal since the VRM may be very efficient and cooling might not be a concern. However, I’d be really upset if this occurred on a budget model.
