soooo i found these in a dumpster in front of a ems station a couple days after new years. idk what they did to the optiplex but i had to reinstall windows 8.1 from usb. i wouldnt have if id known how long it was gonna take on account of me HAVING NO CLUE WHAT IM DOING. got it working, using it atm cuz my only other pc is a surface pro 5 i yeeted down the road in a bike wreck.( it was in the bikes hard case that broke open). im not certain so dont quote me, but i dont think i could fit a gpu in an aio right? im also trying to update the bios but the instructions say i could brick it or something idk, it was free so ill get bored and try it eventually. i read i need to do that before i can go to windows 10? if i dont break it, is it worth anything? i googled it and the prices range from one mcdouble all the way to 188$ from some crazy person. if i can only get like 50 bucks for it, ill just keep it and retire my other one. now the precision wont turn on? i plug it in and nothing happens. an orange light blinks on the power button but thats it. i have tried almost nothing to fix it and im out of ideas lol jk i googled it just now and found a blinking light code table. i only have one random computer cable i never needed till now so ig imma turn this off and see how many blinks i get on it. i also found some ddr3 1600 ecc memory and i put that in it? is that compatible? imma be mad if i put the other ram back in it and it starts up. anyway if i get the precision working, it has the weakest looking gpu ive ever seen in it and i was wondering if i can get a b bit better card, would it do some light cadd? or is it too old? i think its completely stock, it has a dvd burner so id like to sail the seas a bit too if its not dead. i have a ps4 pro and if its not obvious im a little too cheap to buy games twice and my playstation usually plays anything i buy for it so imma keep doing that. if you have any thoughts, suggestions, or you think of any good fish puns.... let minnow p.s. i just made this account so if this is a well discussed topic, my bad. i used the search first tho but i didnt look very hard
unfortunately this is correct, an all-in-one typically does not have a PCIe slot for any type of expansion card, you'd be lucky to find an older one with an NVMe slot. a BIOS update is an "only if necessary" type thing. If the system is working properly, a BIOS update is the last thing you'd want to do. an all-in-one PC that's not broken can reasonably be sold for about $40 USD most places. The 4th gen CPU in a 3030 makes it better than useless for basic home office or web browsing. if this system has a Xeon inside, it should be good with the ECC. But to troubleshoot, you might want to boot with as little ram as possible, that might fix something. I've had some fun with these older Dell workstations. You can usually put a decent card in there, I am guessing it has at least a 6 pin connector for PCIe power. If not, you can usually slap one of the low power classics in here, a GTX 750 TI or a 1050 TI, or since it uses a standard power supply you can get a regular ATX PSU and upgrade to your heart's content
It's unlikely you'll need to update the BIOS for Windows 10 to run OptiPlex. Both operating systems remain functional with an SSD.
Observe the precision PSUs are quite poor. One here supports 625W on a T3600, but a 200W GPU would cause it to fail. This makes it hard to trust the reported power limits, so you’re likely limited to something like a GTX 1060 or lower before problems arise.
That sounds like you have a faulty PSU, I don't see any other reason why it would trip with a 200W card. Even Dell themselves say the 635W PSU in the t3600 can handle 225W in the main slot and run a secondary 75W card at the same time. There's no way Dell would lie about the wattage in such a expensive professional workstation.
