The price gap isn't huge, so at least six cores are suggested. Unless you plan to upgrade your PC frequently. Consider the 9400F or R5 3600. Anything cheaper doesn't seem worthwhile. You're saving a bit of money for something you'll use for years.

I observed that most users who enhance their PCs here tend to focus on combo upgrades—CPU, motherboard, and RAM. For those planning to replace the CPU annually, you're correct. However, this represents just a small fraction of the community. Generally, they have sufficient funds for regular hardware improvements, which feels more like a passion project than a necessity.

It makes more financial sense to get the midrange option every 3 years (let's say the $200 cpu) than getting the high end option (the $600 cpu) and hoping it will last 6 years.

The 3600 exceeds my budget. Are you certain the 2600 isn’t a better option? It supports overclocking, unlike the 9400f, and I’m familiar with the process. I don’t mind the upgrade potential of my system. I’m completely indifferent.

2600 stands out over the 9400f because of its included hardware. It's advisable to steer clear of non-HT CPUs whenever feasible.
