Hi everyone, I"m not much of a Mac person. Way more of a Windows person. I have a MacBook Pro (2008) running El Capitan. I get an Optimum Wifi pop up asking me to sign in like 3 times a day. iCloud repeatedly asks me to confirm my password for my email, over and over again. One problem was the system clock. It was way off and so that seemed to invalidate security certificates for common websites like Google. Updating the system clock seemed to fix it. Thanks for any help you can give.

The best Wi-Fi should come from a third-party application? It doesn’t look familiar to me...

It's odd since I use Optimum, yet I'm already connected to my favorite network. The Optimum Wi-Fi window appears to display "optimumwifi" as the desired name.

Restart your Mac and discontinue using that third-party application.

Optimumwifi takes precedence over any other network you're using, attempting to connect to it even when another is active, which involves logging in. Adjust network settings to ensure your WiFi appears first in advanced preferences.

It seems like you're unsure about Optimim, but it appears to be an external tool that isn't functioning properly. It doesn't seem to be an issue specific to Macs.

Optimum is the ISP, while optimumwifi is a complimentary Wi-Fi service they provide to eligible users for free access to Wi-Fi in specific areas (with login required). The optimum app simply lets you stream TV on your computer if you join the optimum or Optimum Cable subscription.

I'm pleased to say, my internet service provider is optimal.

You can turn off iCloud in system settings. It bothers me they set these cloud services on by default and hiding the option to opt out is tricky. If you need to use iCloud but aren’t sure, enter your password—if it doesn’t save or remember it, something might be wrong. Make sure all necessary features are turned on in the preferences. A weak internet connection could also trigger password reminders. Updated April 20, 2017 by Wild Penquin Removed redundant IIRC

It seems the Wi-Fi connection is unstable, leading Optimum to remind you to reconnect. Losing the Wi-Fi would also halt iCloud syncing, which explains why it requests a password. A variety of issues can arise if your system clock is incorrect—double-check that it’s set properly before proceeding with troubleshooting.
