I just completed my third build using an i9 13900K on a ROG Maximus z790 Hero cooled by a Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix XT. I applied the thermal paste before installing the cooler, connected the pump cable to the CPU_FAN header and the three fans to the iCUE Commander. All fans are spinning at 2150 RPM, the pump at 2600 RPM, and the CPU_FAN is set to full speed in BIOS. After running an AIDA64 test, I experienced up to 6% throttling, with cores hitting 85-100+ under load. The coolant temperature stays around the mid-30s. Everything came out of the box except for adjusting the CPU_FAN header settings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Because the temperatures differ noticeably—about 30°C—I’d inspect the mounting to confirm symmetry across the CPU. Updated August 8, 2023 by Godlygamer23 Small adjustment to the temperature reading.

Yeah I need to wait for a new thing of Kryonaut first, I'm not sure where my old one went when I delid my old CPU. Don't want to dismount the pump yet until then, I figured the cores not matching in temps may have something to do with the spread of thermal paste. I'll have to check it out on the 10th. I've been on a couple other forums, someone said to daisy chain the 3 radiator fans to the CPU_FAN header and to put the PWM for the pump onto the AIO_PUMP header instead. And someone else said it may be a voltage issue. I've never had to daisy chain PWM's onto one header so I'm not sure how to go about that. As for putting the pump on the AIO_PUMP header, I still need to wait for that Kryonaut since I was dumb and put the pump where the cable wouldn't reach the AIO header, so I need to dismount it anyways to turn it 90 degrees lol.

The pump's liquid temperature would indicate its signaling or power status. The propylene glycol inside can handle stress, but if it overheats, temperature will rise. Immediate thermal throttling suggests checking the mount while applying thermal paste. Other core temperatures and the pump's current RPM are also important to monitor. You thought you resolved the issue, but it still occurred. The pump was placed normally, upright, and the thumb screws were secured tightly.

This statement appears nonsensical and unrelated to any tangible effects. The label itself does not alter the characteristics of the connected component.

Think about purchasing a contact frame to extend your temperature tolerance before throttling occurs. Also, lower the voltage for the core and cache by roughly -50 mV for the same reason. Gaining more temperature headroom is beneficial. The 13900K struggles to stay cool out of the box during extreme full-load tests such as AIDA64 or Prime95 Small FFTs.

It seems the application wasn't complete across the entire contact area. I agree with @unclewebb.

I believe this indicates the IHS heat spreader isn't perfectly flat. The poor-quality OEM mounting hardware Intel employs is probably the main issue. A contact frame would be better if you need to handle full load stress without throttling.

The weakest part occurs around the middle. The outer edge on the right side of the photo appears fully dry, indicating a paste application problem. I also notice some bending present. Disappointing for Intel’s design choices—they just needed to add two tabs per side near the corners.
