Hello, I own an Intel i3 8100 with a stock cooler installed as a desktop setup and use dedicated graphics (Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB). I've observed that during demanding tasks like games or benchmarks, the CPU temperature increases as expected. However, once it hits around 60 to 61°C, performance drops noticeably, often by a few degrees. This is frustrating because it leads to noticeable lag and occasional 5-second freezes in games. I've searched online but haven't found a solution. I found some information in the BIOS, but I'm unsure if raising the upper temperature by 10 or 20 will actually improve performance. Thanks for any help. P.S. I built this system about five years ago and recently cleaned it thoroughly, repasting the old thermal pads without replacing them.
These Intel CPUs are built to handle high temperatures over the past decade, making it safe to raise your throttle limit to around 80°C.
Intel Core i38100 features a 6M cache running at 3.60 GHz. The TJ max is set to 100°C for the 8100 model. The question arises why the throttle point isn't increased further.
Hello, after reviewing the details, it seems certain settings like CPU thermal limits are not visible or editable. Using the f9 search tool, a warning appears when typing "throttle," but when searching for "throttling" nothing comes up and no alerts appear.
I discovered the performance problems aren't just due to low CPU thermal limits. For the games I mentioned, the issues were related to a GPU driver problem in r6 and certain settings in Space Engineers requiring more power. Still, I’m open to finding a way to boost thermal limits. I checked for BIOS updates on the manufacturer’s website and will compare them after updating.
