I recently purchased the MSI GF65 Thin paired with an I5 10500H and an RTX 3060. Using HWinfo, I monitored temperatures during a roughly two-hour gaming session. The average across all six cores was about 80°C, with some cores reaching mid-80s. My main concern is the peak temperatures, which spiked between 94–99°C on various cores. Should I be concerned about the highs or more about the overall average?

Thermal management in laptops often fails, causing overheating during prolonged use. An 80-degree temperature is acceptable for a two-hour gaming session.

Great to hear you're a first-time laptop user. Those high core temperatures—94 to 99 degrees—can indicate performance or cooling issues.

Very normal. If you look at something such as the Dell XPS 15, it easily reaches 99 degrees. It's just how laptops are with high powered chips. Nothing to really worry about.
