Thermal paste for Wraith Prism that's lodged on a Ryzen 3800X
Hi everyone, I bought a new NH-D15 cooler to swap out the Wraith Prism model. After taking it out, the stock cooler stuck tightly to the CPU. Once I finally removed it, the CPU also came out with the Wraith Prism. Then I noticed the pins were bent—look at the image below! When trying to take the CPU out, the thermal paste felt like it was holding everything together. Did anyone else experience this issue? It looks like the manufacturer didn’t include a CPU brace to keep the CPU secure. Any advice or suggestions?
We've seen this before, so everything should be okay. We'll handle the CPU carefully. To release the CPU from the cooler, apply a small amount of IPA on the sides to loosen it—you can use dental floss and twist gently. Alternatively, apply pressure from below using a screwdriver wrapped in electrical tape. Once removed, we'll fix any bent pins.
I've encountered this situation before. It's happened to me too, though I managed to fix it by adjusting the cooler slightly. Please try straightening those pins. Thanks for your patience.
Because of this, it's best not to take off the CPU cooler when the system isn't hot. Doing so adds unnecessary trouble and could lead to removing the CPU from its socket. When you need to take out the Noctua cooler, allow the PC to cool down fully, then power off and remove the cooler.
