I've experienced this problem for a few months now. My main concern is that I had to completely reinstall Windows from a flash drive due to a corrupted installation. As a result, I lost the original settings that came with the laptop. Another potential issue could be the BIOS downgrade I made about a year ago to undervolt the CPU. After upgrading back to the latest version, it might have led to corruption. This processor is capped at 4 GHz even though it's rated for up to 4.10 GHz. (It does reach its maximum TDP of 45W.) I've checked the BIOS for any CPU-related settings, used throttle stop to adjust settings (though most were locked), and downloaded chipset drivers from ASUS. Temperatures are normal, usually around 75°C. When running Cinebench R23, single-core performance is around 1046, without power limits being hit. During multi-core runs, it drops to about 4955 with an average of 2.5 GHz and still hits the 45W TDP. The laptop specs are: ASUS TUF Gaming FX504GE, Windows 11 22H2 (Build 22621), Intel Core i7-8750H at 2.20GHz, 16 GB RAM (single channel), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with BIOS v323.
In an ideal scenario it works perfectly but only on one processor. Running close to 4 GHz when under stress is impressive considering most laptops can't reach that speed. You can turn off Spread Spectrum if available, which would increase overall clock speeds slightly. I’d prioritize buying extra RAM first. Ultimately, you’re relying on a laptop, and the bottleneck lies in the graphics card. When searching for drivers, always consult the manufacturer—Intel is the main source. ASUS and similar brands offer BIOS support, but their driver updates are often slow and poorly maintained. You don’t need Intel Rapid Storage Drivers unless your machine uses a hybrid SSD/HDD or RAID setup. A 75C chip works well for gaming, but 75C on a desktop could cause issues. Mobile chips heat up easily; avoid temperatures above 55°C.
Thanks for the feedback. The 4GHz clock speed observation definitely affects throttling. Regarding the 'Speed Spectrum' reference, it’s unclear where to locate it. I’m still exploring the details. I’ve been using Intel GPU drivers from their site since the Asus version was outdated. My idle temperatures stay around 40°C for the GPU and under 50°C for the CPU.
