There seems to be a concern about the new GPU, wondering if anyone has any insights into what might be going on.
There seems to be a concern about the new GPU, wondering if anyone has any insights into what might be going on.
I purchased a base model Gigabyte 5070ti a few weeks back. The rest of my setup includes
5700x3D
MSI B550
Crucial 3200 CL16 with 4 sticks totaling 32gb
Three M.2 drives
Multiple SSDs
An 850 watt gold-rated PSU
Game runs at 1440p
I upgraded from an Asus 6800xt. During 3D Mark tests, Steel Nomad etc., the GPU reports 100% usage while the CPU stays under 20%. In actual gameplay, real-world usage is closer to 70% GPU and 40% CPU.
I’m experiencing strange performance issues—sometimes the system shows a tinted splash screen before it crashes. Games tend to freeze under heavy load, like in Starfield, where action spikes cause the GPU to drop to zero before spiking again, leading to lag. Occasionally the game freezes completely or crashes.
I’ve looked up advice on forums and tried forcing the PCI lane to only show gen 4 devices, using DDU to clear drivers and restarting everything. I’m curious about how this affects benchmark results versus actual gameplay. Any suggestions would be helpful.
850 watt power supply unit rated gold
850W represents the stated power output of this device. Could you provide details about its manufacturer, model number, and age?
The motherboard brand is MSI, the chipset is B550, and I need to know the BIOS version.
What driver version are you currently using for your RTX5070Ti?
I used DDU to remove all existing drivers and then reinstalled the newest GPU drivers from Nvidia's support site.
I upgraded from W10 to W11. The free upgrade stuff didn’t help much. I expected a clean install of my C drive, but it seems they just added a W10 partition again. Anyway.
Running DDU in safe mode seems to have fixed most of my problems. Still experiencing minor issues during heavy gaming sessions. I played around with about ten games to check performance and CPU/GPU stats. Some games hit the 80-90 GPU range while CPU usage stayed between 30-50%. A few had very low overall usage without any frame drops.
I haven’t switched between ATI and Nvidia for a long time, so I didn’t realize safe mode was needed to stop old drivers from running.
Thanks for the tips. These cards are expensive right now, and I’m wondering if I might have gotten a bunk card.
It's good to hear that most issues are fixed.
Switching between Nvidia, AMD, and Intel does require adjustments or can cause performance drops quickly.
Usage seems reasonable, though it really varies by game.
Nvidia has had driver problems recently, which might be a contributing factor and could be fixed with an update.
Ensure the Resizable Bar is activated as well.
You can verify this in the Nvidia Control Panel (system info) or using tools like GPU-Z.
If you're not using a negative core offset on the 5700X3D, give it a try.
It should improve boost clocks and lower temperatures.
-30 all-core results are uncertain; it depends on the chip manufacturing.
If stability is an issue (crashes during idle or transients, not under load), consider lowering it to -20, -10, etc.
The only other adjustment might be fine-tuning RAM timings slightly.
This won't have as big an effect as the negative core offset, but it's still worth trying.
Yeah, the CPU is set to all cores and -30. It didn’t run at -30 with my latest card a 6800xt. I’ve been stable at -30 for a few weeks now with this new card. Who knows what will happen. My RAM won’t go up to 3600 and stay stable. It’s B die, but it doesn’t matter. The GPU is running well between 3.0 and 3.1, which is great.
Turn REBAR back on, it will improve performance just like Nvidia does.
With the -30 offset, the GPU shouldn't affect stability, which is good if everything works now.
Regarding RAM, it could be that you're using all four DIMMs.
Adjusting memory is simpler with two DIMMs, as it reduces load on the controller.
