Hello! I've noticed this problem for a while now and only recently considered whether it might be problematic. My CPU consistently shows 100% usage in TaskManager, even when nothing is running in the background. I've confirmed this with HWiNFO, but it doesn't match the results I'm seeing. Searching online hasn't yielded a clear fix. If anyone has advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

The processes tab displays information about running applications and their resource consumption. Click on the CPU to arrange them based on usage.

They seem to be Windows processes, yet they consume excessive CPU. I’m concerned there might be malware present. Have you considered using an anti-malware tool such as Malwarebytes to verify this?

It might be that Windows entered performance mode or the CPU was set to full ON in the BIOS. Adjusting C-states is possible. Edited December 5, 2023 by leclod

I considered it, but no results appeared after the scans. Probably because I assembled the PC myself, and it's been this way since the start. Unless it came with hidden malware, I don't believe that's the problem.

It's a desktop computer, so performance mode isn't an option. I didn't alter the BIOS beyond turning on XMP. I'm not familiar enough with the BIOS to adjust settings myself.

Windows performance can vary. Adjust power settings via management. The BIOS might default to full operation. Enabling C-States in the BIOS can resolve the problem.

I wasn't aware that power management existed on desktop devices. It was configured for maximum performance, but switching it to Balanced or Power Saver didn't make a difference. I located the C-States in the BIOS, which was set to Auto. Altering it to Enabled didn't change anything either.

After resetting the power plans to their default settings, the problem in Task Manager was resolved. You were right about Power Management. Appreciate the assistance!
