I understand it could seem trivial since Zen3 isn't available yet and details about Zen4 are limited. If I upgraded to Zen3, which motherboard would offer the highest compatibility chances with Zen4?

Zen4 will probably need a different connector and support DDR5 unless you go back to older tech, which might not be available for another two years.

Zen 4 is expected to use AM5 instead of AM4. AMD has consistently stated they will back AM4 through at least 2020, so avoid assuming Zen 4 or Ryzen 5000 are AM4.

I believe ZEN 4 won’t appear before 2022. They’d also require DDR5, which hasn’t been finalized yet.

I'm still using a 4770k with an OC of 4.2ghz, which isn't too bad. I'm planning to upgrade this year and want a motherboard that can last 4-5 years so I can upgrade at least one generation. It's frustrating because I'm upgrading at the end of its life, but it's what I have to do.

I fully understand your perspective. I had to upgrade to AM4 due to a failing and outdated 775 motherboard. Currently, I’m using a 3100 until the ZEN 3 release. I think a 16-core ZEN 3 with an RTX3000 and enough RAM could last at least five years or more.

Choosing the 3080 fits your setup perfectly. I’m using it on a 1440p, 144Hz display, which should be sufficient right now—I currently have a 1080p model.
