So, I purchased an MSI MAG A850GL about a month or two ago, and the power supply began producing this noise occasionally. It's mounted vertically.

The first noise:

The second noise:
View: https://youtu.be/Qh_BmkUZ7J4

The sound continues whenever I turn off the PSU. It stops after a minute once I unplug it from the wall. After that, when I restart the PC, it no longer makes the noise. Even during long gaming or Blender sessions, it just seems random. This time the issue started while I was browsing.

I plan to send it in for RMA soon since I can't return it anymore. Do you have any idea what might be causing this problem?

PSU coil whine is a common issue. It might be that all MSI A850GL PSUs experience this when installed vertically, and a new one won't solve it. In such cases, changing the brand would be better. Consider alternatives like Seasonic Focus/Vertex/PRIME, Corsair RMx/RMi/HXi/AXi, or Super Flower Leadex series.

Coilwhine can reach such high levels?
😵
What’s unusual is that it doesn’t sound like usual. It’s happening for the second time and seems random. Under load, the PSU remains quiet even then.
My last PSU had a mild coilwhine but not as intense as this one.

It can be one of three things:
1. PSU coil whine
2. PSU fan bearing
3. PSU fan blades striking the fan frame
When it mentions fan blades hitting something, you'll hear the consistent sound of a spinning fan. The quicker it spins, the more pronounced the rhythm becomes.
This doesn't match the noise from blades hitting something.
Fan bearing sounds typically appear as a dull crackle and occur within certain RPM ranges during operation. Also, flipping the PSU switch would halt the fan and its noise. However, this isn't happening for you.
Therefore, bearing noise is also unlikely.
Coil whine is a steady, constant hum or screech at a fixed pitch.
GPU coil whine varies depending on the current load of the GPU.
My ears indicate a PSU coil whine problem.
