Someone is asking if others use Chrome a lot while rarely saving or closing it. They describe running Chrome with many tabs—over 20, plus several video sessions—and around 200 open/close sessions daily. They’re experiencing memory problems that have lasted years. With 16GB RAM, they notice heavy usage (around 10GB) when the system starts and only a small amount remains in swap space after closing. They suspect a memory leak or similar issue and wonder if this has been addressed in Sierra.
It's improved somewhat, though it's still not fully resolved.
I see myself as someone who uses a lot of Chrome features... but I haven’t opened many tabs at once. Right now, I’m running about 40 tabs across several windows. Here’s a snapshot of how much RAM Chrome is consuming. I’m not sure if that’s optimal or not. I have 8GB of memory available. Regarding memory leaks, I’ve felt this before. The only times I really hit the wall were while coding or using Photoshop in the background. Then memory usage would spike to nearly 100%, swap usage around 3-4 GB, and the whole system would freeze. Otherwise, I’m usually fine about 95% of the time.
Added a few adjustments for me. Also resolved some problems with my ultra-wide screen. It now supports 1920x1080, not just 2560x1080, and I used SwitchResX on the phone.
