My computer has been behaving strangely since my summer break. Before I left, everything worked fine (June 13 - August 15). After returning, I faced a series of strange problems mainly when gaming. These issues mostly appear during gameplay and don’t seem to transfer between different titles. The first thing that caught my eye was in Overwatch 2: my character would move erratically at random moments and trigger unexpected inputs. This often caused me to disconnect from the server, and other programs would lose internet for a few seconds before reconnecting. During this time, calls dropped and Spotify stopped playing. The second problem involved Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. My frame rate would drop significantly—from 200-300 to just 50-60—for up to half a minute. At random intervals (possibly the same as in Overwatch?), the game would freeze completely, showing a low FPS or zero, and my GPU latency would slowly increase. This issue disappeared once I logged out and logged back in. I took my PC to a local repair shop, which found no faults. I also tried it at a friend’s place, with no success. Using another monitor didn’t help either. I’ve checked cables, ports, drivers, and even reset the system, but nothing seems to fix the matter. My setup is a self-built machine about 1.5 years old, running two monitors. The GPU model is 4070 Ti, CPU 13th Gen, motherboard MSI Pro Z690-A, RAM Kingston Fury 64GB (2x32GB), DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Beast.

Consider installing a BIOS update to check for improvements.

The PC functions properly outside your home? Make sure you understand this could point to an issue elsewhere. If it works in the workshop and at friends’ houses, the problem might lie at your residence. How is the PC supplied? Does it rely on a UPS? Is the electricity stable in your home or does it experience brownouts? Were you leaving the PC running while away? Can you notice additional processes in Task Manager during this time? Are there other computers you can test to see if the gaming machine still connects to the internet?

I haven’t found any problems in the shop or at my friend’s house, though I didn’t spend much time testing it. The term UPS isn’t familiar to me, but I checked it up and don’t know if my PC uses it. From what I understand, my home power is stable with no known issues. I left my computer off while I was away, which should help. The Task Manager isn’t intuitive, but I haven’t noticed any differences in running tasks during troublesome times. Unfortunately, I don’t have friends who are open to testing their PCs, so I’m unsure if the issue might be specific to other machines.

Right away?! That seems intriguing. All the posts you shared look like a GPU crashing, and reloading drivers should take some time, which makes "immediately" seem strange. I’d like to look into this further. When you press Alt-Tab, does it happen right when the game freezes and do you see the Alt-Tab menu? If yes, it’s not a major issue, but the freezes you described earlier seem more complete. Are you experiencing similar issues? The tougher freezes might relate to power delivery on the GPU or PSU (or maybe the motherboard), but not really. If that’s the case, I’d run a DDU cleanup in Safe Mode as suggested and try playing again. How secure are your cooling systems? Are you in an especially warm environment?

Typically it takes a couple of seconds before I can switch tabs, but once I can do it it fixes the problem right away. I often use alt-tab and swipe my mouse to another monitor to move quickly. When I succeed, I usually see the alt-tab menu again. I’ll try a DDU and get back to you. I’m fairly sure about the cooling system since the workshop staff checked it and confirmed everything is fine. I’m from Scandinavia, so it’s not very warm there.

I tried the DDU test but didn’t resolve any problems. Have you considered alternative approaches?

Alternative suggestions focus on power supply units and graphics cards. It seems the system acts differently in certain environments, so keep the warranty valid for any assessment.
