Trying to refresh the BIOS for this motherboard meant I was planning to buy a budget CPU from eBay. However, most inexpensive chips like the A6 to A12 are only compatible with the current BIOS version. With the latest update, support for Bristol Ridge CPUs is removed when adding 5000 series compatibility. My concern is whether updating the BIOS will cause problems with this type of CPU.

Refreshing the bios with any chip that is presently supported is acceptable, though clearly as you mentioned, the board won't function with that original chip.

That's my initial thought, though I wasn't certain if not supporting it in both directions could cause issues. I noticed these budget boards seem to behave that way.

I don’t believe anything would fail since it’s a budget board. They’ve released bios for the 5000 series to be updated while using current chips. I wouldn’t have even thought about it, though it’s a good ideaSmile

It was only when you upgraded to a Ryzen 5 2600 that it became compatible in both directions. I think it should work fine, though I bought the A8-9600 and hope it will.
