There are occasional download issues and a blue screen of death.
I’m trying to figure out how to tackle a two-part issue that seems connected to storage.
My PC is mostly used for gaming and runs Windows 11 Pro 64-bit with MSI Gaming Edge Wi-Fi.
It has an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, 4.20 GHz, 16 GB RAM, and an upgraded NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card.
There are two main concerns:
Problem 1 – Downloads on various platforms (Steam, Epic, Xbox, Ubisoft, etc.) frequently stop at zero for a few seconds. It’s not a slow download, just intermittent drops in speed. It seems unrelated to my internet connection and works fine with Chrome or Edge. Likely the issue lies elsewhere, probably within my PC hardware.
Problem 2 – Several games frequently crash or display blue screens. This started about a month before the crashes began. I performed a full system reset a few weeks ago, but it didn’t resolve the first problem. The BIOS was updated recently, yet neither issue improved. My Windows installation is on a 512GB M.2 NVMe drive, and my games are stored on a SATA 2.5" SSD. I suspect the storage speed or interface might be the cause, but I’m not sure what to check next.
I’ve searched extensively online and consulted forums, but nothing matches. I’m not an expert, so any specific guidance would be really helpful.
Thank you for your time.
If a full PC reset—covering all drives—involves removing every partition from the boot drive and starting fresh in unallocated space, yet problems persist, it likely points to a hardware fault or driver conflict. The same applies to your NIC issue; if you're not experiencing throttling from the router, the problem probably lies with the NIC or its driver.
