Recently, a friend built a computer for me, and I’ve been facing some small audio problems along with occasional drops in my USB connections while playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I’d also like to help someone with their Cash App, which takes its time to assist a brother. You assist me and I assist you.

I noticed a problem with sound through my old headset—a Corsair Virtuoso RGB that had worked perfectly on my previous PC for a year. After selling the old machine (Ryzen 7 5800x / RTX 3080), I ended up with this new build (PC Part Picker).

Once everything was set up, I started using it and noticed my audio would sometimes warp, especially when watching videos or playing games. The sound would crackle and become distorted, unlike the crystal clarity on my old PC where I could still hear clearly even in the kitchen. There’s also a reduced range with the headset; I can barely get a good signal before it starts to distort. In contrast, on my previous setup, I could leave the room with the headset on and still hear perfectly.

I tried connecting everything wired, expecting clearer sound without distortion. However, after some time, the audio disappeared entirely, requiring me to repeatedly reconnect the USB cable in and out of the port to reset it. Eventually, I had to buy a new headset—Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless.

While playing MW2 (my current main game), I’m aware of these issues. I’ll highlight more unusual problems later.

At the start of a match, I often lose control of my USB peripherals. Reconnecting them doesn’t help—they just power on but don’t register anything. All the RGB lights stay on but freeze. The only solution is to hard restart my PC using the power button on the case.

Occasionally, pressing the Windows key during a match causes crashes in various applications, including Discord. Still, aside from these audio and USB issues, everything else seems to be running smoothly. I’m getting the expected frames, and system temperatures are low according to monitoring tools. I’ve updated the BIOS and installed a fresh Windows version, but maybe there’s more to it?

Photos of the computer are available.

This issue might take some time to locate, so proceed carefully. Given that the audio problem impacts two distinct headsets, it’s probable the fault lies in the USB connection.
I’m thinking you’re not encountering any difficulties with the keyboard or mouse, as you haven’t mentioned such issues. If your headset is connected to the front or top panel (when relevant), attempt to connect it to the motherboard’s I/O panel instead.
Also, check if another PNP device causes similar behavior when plugged into the same location as the headset.
If you confirm the issue stems from the front/top panel USB ports, consider ordering a replacement from the case manufacturer or arranging warranty service for it.
If the problem persists on the motherboard, initiate an RMA.
Another possibility is using a USB 3.0 expansion (PCIe) card.

Just checking in after the test. The USB ports on the case and the motherboard both produce the same result for the headset.

After reviewing your request again, it seems you haven't verified for or installed new drivers. Visit the headset manufacturer's site for the newest and possibly older versions. Then, launch Device Manager (or try PowerShell if you prefer) to remove the headset. Beginning with the latest, apply the headset driver.
