There are a few Win11 problems that led to concerns about my SSD.
Hi,
I’m considering reinstalling Windows 11 from a USB ISO on a family PC. After 25 hours of failed installation, I’m worried about losing important files on the M2 SSD. Do you think it’s safe to remove the SSD, use your reader to access it (possibly with the code from the family account), back up the photos and videos, and then reinstall the OS fresh? Also, is there another way to do this without risking data loss?

Cheers for the help people
You may need to set up a fresh installation from an USB ISO on your family PC, especially since the Windows 11 25H2 update has disrupted mouse and keyboard functions in the recovery environment. It’s important to avoid losing important files on the M2 SSD. A system restore to a previous stable state could help, or using Shift+F10 during installation might allow access to necessary data.
So, I came across that article during my intense weekend search, and here’s what I’m experiencing:
- Pressing F4 at startup (Safe mode without networking) – works with keyboard/mouse but not on Windows login screen
- Pressing F5 at startup does the same as above (seems like Safe mode with networking) – oddly, after a reset (using the power button), it boots into Windows RE, which then...
- I can reach Windows RE by doing three physical restarts from the BIOS logo, but it just checks for issues and tries to connect to the network. It says it won’t try again for 30 minutes.
It’s really confusing. Also, I’m not seeing any lag when I enter the article’s instructions; the keyboard (numlock) lights function in the BIOS and then act like there are no USBs connected. I think the update didn’t install 25h2 properly and then tried to roll it back, leaving Windows stuck in a limbo state...
