I understand the situation. It's been quite some time since I assembled a PC, and I installed a Z390 Aorus Ultra with a 9700k chipset. I thought it would function properly, but when I turned it on, the lights stayed lit for only a brief moment before fading. Pressing the power button on my case made the PSU click, but no further action occurred. I was surprised to find that the extra four pins for CPU power were present, which led me to suspect a possible issue. I ended up getting a cable from someone else. Could this be related? I also have an EVGA Supernova G2 750W, and the one I borrowed from Corsair seems to work without problems.
The additional 4-pin isn't necessary unless you're pushing the CPU beyond normal limits. You only need the standard 8-pin CPU/EPS connector, which should be listed in the motherboard manual as well. My Z390 Aorus Master features two 8-pin connectors, and I currently have one connected. I strongly recommend against using PSU cables from various manufacturers. Their wiring can differ (for example, the +12V wire might be GROUND on EVGA versus Corsair), which could cause issues. Things to verify: Is the motherboard securely installed in the case? Have all ground points and RAM slots been correctly placed? Ensure your CPU cooler is firmly attached and linked to the CPU_Fan header. Check your graphics card and any PCI-E 6-pin or 8-pin power connections. Your board has a Q-Code debug display near the bottom—does it display any codes, and does it freeze on specific ones (like 66 or A2)? EDIT: Confirm that your case power switch and reset button are properly connected to the motherboard front I/O header.
Ram is doing okay. I attempted to connect only the cable with the 8 pin connector while leaving the 4 pin disconnected. I verified the standoffs were aligned properly with the motherboard. I didn’t even connect a GPU since I wanted to confirm it would boot before making changes. There are no codes, and it doesn’t attempt to start or display. It’s frustrating while I wait for my new motherboard to install. Psu is fine, it’s functioning properly in the old setup. I got the Noctua cooler and read the manual carefully before installing, following each step precisely. I’m getting really frustrated because I just want to use my new rig.
The power switch got flipped accidentally. I’m trying to figure out which error codes appear next. I’m feeling pretty new at this.
