Today I put in my new processor and cooler upgrade I received over the holidays, but things didn’t go exactly as expected. Motherboard: Asus Prime X570 Pro (old) CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X RAM: Corsair CMH32GX4M2D3600C18 GPU: Asus TUF 4070 Ti. I thought I had updated my BIOS in Armory Crate, so I installed the new CPU—Ryzen 7 5800X3D—and the cooler and fans, which seems to be working. However, I’m not seeing video output, only a yellow light on the motherboard. I’ve reinserted the RAM and tried booting with a single stick, but it still doesn’t work. I’m now considering reinstalling the old CPU again, but facing the same problem. Any suggestions?

It seems the newest BIOS wasn't installed. The motherboard required a series of incremental updates to reach the latest release.

Yellow indicator where? Edit: Likely the DRAM LED. Have you tried resetting your BIOS? Edited January 1, 2024 by leclod

It's related to DRAM. I attempted to reset the CMOS on my motherboard using the short pins and briefly removed the battery, but the light remained on without any visible output.

Yes, it might boot now depending on the condition of the system.

How much time are you holding off before giving up and turning it off? These days motherboards seem to take forever after installing new parts and starting memory training or something similar. If you haven’t tried it, just turn it on for a few minutes and see if it boots. I believed my Z690 Aorus Elite was dead when I first assembled this... (12700K // 32GB DDR5) anyway... I’m now getting a DRAM refresh and was getting really frustrated. Eventually I left it on while checking RMA info, and after about five minutes it came back into the BIOS... which was perfect. But it took a long time to get there the first time (after that it worked just fine). I think they should emphasize in the manuals how important it is to run memory training on the first boot.

Life was busy, but I managed to fix the issue. I reached out to a nearby computer repair shop and explained the problem while still working on troubleshooting. They helped, and the old CPU started working with just one RAM stick. After updating the BIOS and reinstalling the other RAM, it functioned properly. Everything is now resolved. Thanks!
