The XMP setting is stuck at 3466
I am trying to get my XMP working correctly. I can only run it at 3466MHz when all four slots are filled, but I cannot reach the full speed of 3600MHz. However, when I fill three out of four slots with A1A2B2 pattern, I manage to hit 3600MHz. Anyone know why this is happening? My setup uses a Ryzen 5 3600x, an ASUS B550M PRO4 motherboard, BIOS version 32G, 8GB DDR4 RAM in an XMP configuration, and other components listed above.
Asrock likely uses a cable chain method to link the memory slots on the motherboard. This setup helps boost two or four sticks of RAM during overclocking but could really restrict performance if you use all four slots at once. For full-4-slot setups, sticking them together in a direct line might not be as good as connecting each stick individually.
Asrock likely uses a specific way called daisy-chain for linking the memory slots (DIMMs) on the board layout. Using this setup helps with faster speeds when you have two or four slots filled, but it can stop working well if all four are used at once. If only two slots have memory installed, then a simpler point-to-point style would be better, yet that means less speed when there is only one pair of memory sticks running. So most companies stick with this method on top-end computers where extra money for more RAM isn't an issue and they actually need it.
