The announcement revealed a major twist: XCOM 2 will be available only on PC, diverging from its previous success on other systems. Creative Director Jake Solomon explained to IGN that the team aims for ambitious goals and chose PC as their primary focus. He emphasized discussions centered around the platform’s capabilities, highlighting the need for optimized UI and mouse-and-keyboard support. The design will prioritize smaller text for players seated closer to screens. Upgrades like physics rendering, enhanced destruction effects, and procedurally generated maps are also planned. While Xbox One and PlayStation 4 could host the game, supporting mods would likely be absent, a key selling point. Solomon confirmed openness to a console release but noted it wasn’t yet on the table. The PC exclusivity underscores the studio’s confidence in their expertise for that platform.

I love that they're making the game more detailed, and optimizing for KB+M. The previous game was perfectly playable with KB+M, but it was certainly not optimized for it. And mod support is always great.

It's nice to know I don't mind this game since I favor a controller over a mouse and keyboard, regardless of the platform.

Other than that, certain titles shine more when played with a keyboard and mouse. Strategy games are especially notable for this.

ehh xcom is a simple strategy game where you just pick the square you want to play on—no complicated rules, and it works well on consoles.

It would be risky to build a city with a controller, yet I thought it might be a first-person shooter from the trailer I saw recently (I hadn’t even heard of XCOM until then).

You clearly like action-packed games played with a controller! *frowns*

They aim for XCOM 2 to offer more depth compared to XCOM.

It won't include the XCOM appeal.

It will definitely work. Reducing the complexity of XCOM compared to its original form will attract fans of the series.
