I recently purchased a Genesis P65 controller and am experiencing difficulties with its functionality. Upon connection, it consistently becomes locked on Player 2 and remains unresponsive. Consequently, games fail to register the controller’s input, rendering it practically unusable. It's important to note that this gamepad supports both DirectInput and XInput (it includes a switching mechanism). When switched to DirectInput, it operates correctly, but I have concerns about relying on a single controller of this type. This is the only game pad connected to my PC; I’ve attempted troubleshooting by removing and reinstalling drivers, disabling and re-enabling it through Device Manager and Devices and Printers – none of these actions resolved the issue. Previous X-Input controllers functioned without problems, leading me to suspect a defect within this particular controller itself. Could you offer assistance? My operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Perhaps it resembles issues faced by those utilizing Xbox controller setups. Several individuals within this discussion thread assert they’ve identified a resolution, and some indicate that advice from post #5 proved effective. The issue appears to stem more from Windows' misidentification of the primary input device than any fault with the controller itself.

The apparent root cause appears to reside in Windows' misinterpretation of the primary input device, rather than a fault with the controller itself.

I observed that message and attempted to follow its instructions, as detailed previously. I wasn’t intending to ignore the obvious issue, however, my efforts proved unsuccessful. Furthermore, this is not an Xbox gamepad; it's simply another Xinput device, and crucially, it’s connected via a cable.

Regardless of the controller—and this occurs with many different models—it clearly demonstrates that Windows’ detection system is at fault, not the gamepad itself. Have you attempted to remove all other controller drivers until only your device shows up first or as the sole option? This type of issue in home entertainment is known as a “handshake,” referring to the processes required for devices to function together harmoniously. It can be an intricate and iterative troubleshooting approach, but once the systems are properly synchronized, the difficulty vanishes.

Despite this being an outdated discussion, a search for this issue will frequently display it prominently. I’ve experienced this difficulty previously, and the proposed remedies were only short-term resolutions. I recently found something that could provide another approach – or perhaps offer clues regarding other potential causes. I'm sharing this information with anyone encountering this thread through an online search.

I encountered this issue several months ago, and it subsequently disappeared. It resurfaced yesterday dramatically. After restarting my computer, the controller would designate itself as player 1, however, when I ceased using it and it powered off, it reappeared as player 2. I considered the reason for this sudden change yesterday. The only alteration I made was transitioning my Windows 10 account from a local profile to an online one. This prompted a re-login by Windows 10, and my controller reverted back to player 1.

Although this didn’t provide a lasting solution, logging out of my Windows 10 account and then logging back in is considerably quicker than rebooting, and it has functioned effectively so far. I'm hoping to discover a permanent fix.
