Hello everyone, I recently purchased "The Forest" and, as is my usual practice before purchasing any game, I verified that my system meets the suggested specifications. My PC significantly exceeds these recommendations – it’s approximately two to three times more powerful. Therefore, I anticipated being able to play on maximum settings. However, at high settings, the frame rate consistently remains below 45 fps, while even medium settings result in occasional drops. Consequently, I adjusted various graphical options, but frame rates still dip to 50 fps in certain areas and during specific moments. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Are there any potential solutions? My hardware details are: Intel core i5-8400 2.8 GHz, GeForce GTX 1050 ti with 4 GB of memory, a 1080p 60Hz monitor, and 8 GB of VRAM.

Verify if you are employing the GeForce GT 560 graphics card:
https://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-560...TX-1050-Ti

Here’s a comparison based on The Forest's suggested specifications. To fully utilize the GPU, you can deactivate the HD graphics by navigating to Device Manager, locating display adapters, and disabling the HD graphics – this will compel your system to leverage the GPU instead.

Within the options menu, it appears there’s an option to fix the frame rate to 60fps; please ensure this is deactivated. Additionally, within your NVIDIA control panel's graphics settings, verify that vertical synchronization (Vsync) is not activated, as this will tie your game’s performance to your monitor’s refresh rate.

To prevent unsightly screen distortion, I’ve activated vertical synchronization within the game. Furthermore, I’ve set “thread optimization” and “maximum prerendered frames” to their highest levels, which appeared to offer some improvement. However, I continue to experience this problem.

This explains the reason for your reduced frame rates: VSync restricts your FPS to match your monitor’s refresh rate of 60, meaning you'll experience a maximum of 60 frames per second or less during gameplay.

I’ll attempt it again tomorrow. However, could you confirm if it causes any harm to my computer? Also, is there an option to limit its use to particular games? And crucially, will it negatively impact my graphics card or overall PC performance?

I understand, however, it ought to be consistently 60, rather than fluctuating between 50 and 55.

It won’t cause any harm. This simply turns off the integrated CPU graphics, enabling your computer to utilize the dedicated GPU. I’ve primarily worked with AMD graphics cards, but it should permit you to select particular Nvidia graphics options via the control panel – at least, this was the experience with AMD.

It does enable me to change. However, I don’t believe I previously possessed the high-definition graphics card; I suspect I only had the 1050 Ti.
