I’m planning to purchase The Witcher 3 on Steam and am considering whether it would be better to play the second installment beforehand. Are all three games linked through a continuous narrative? The initial game feels too dated for my current preferences.

I sampled just two games briefly, but the clunky inventory and controls discouraged me. After completing three playthroughs fully, I discovered I wasn't lacking anything. Furthermore, I experienced the downloadable content – Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine – which are unquestionably excellent additions. Interestingly, I bypassed all magical abilities and yet succeeded on the Death March difficulty. It mirrors Skyrim in its freedom, allowing considerable player choice in approach and style.
