Hi,
I’m having trouble playing The Witcher 2 (Steam version). I've checked my specifications and they meet the recommended requirements, but my game consistently runs at only 15-20 fps. I’m not sure what to do – could you please help me?

Here are my specs:
* AMD A9-9420 - 3GHz (max: 3.6 GHz)
* 8 GB RAM
* AMD Radeon R5 Graphics
* 240GB SSD Sata

Please let me know if you need any further information.
Thanks,
R.

P.S. I’ve tried all the optimization settings I could find, but nothing seems to improve performance.

I’ve suggested some specs, but I don’t think you do either. What kind of device is this – a laptop, perhaps? Given the A9 chip shown in the images, it looks like it’s meant for mobile computing devices like laptops.

The AMD Radeon driver software indicates you have a recommended configuration…

Yep, you’re right – it's a laptop (HP makes them, specifically the HP 15-bw0xx model). I've already tried searching for it without luck. If you need anything else, just ask.

P.S. I'm not able to share images from my desktop yet.

That A9 should still be able to run Witcher 2 at over 20 fps, although it might depend on the graphics settings. Also, are you sure you're running the system plugged in? Adjusting the quality settings could help improve the frame rate; that will give us a better idea of what’s going on.

I tried lowering the graphics settings, but I’m only getting 15/20 FPS. I don’t know what to do now.

Going by the game requirements and comparing them to the speed of your A9 CPU and video chip, you should be getting over 20 frames per second, especially on Low settings. The recommended graphics cards for this game are significantly faster than yours, but you should still see decent performance at lower quality settings. It sounds like as you increase the quality settings, things will slow down a bit. How accurate is your FPS measurement tool?

I just tried running the game at medium quality and got 10/12 fps – not a huge loss, honestly, about 5-10 fps less than expected. It's understandable given the circumstances. I’m not sure what to think now… maybe it's related to how I’m playing it through Steam? I used the built-in FPS counter in Steam to measure the performance. I’ll wait for an answer. Thanks again for your help!

You don’t actually play it from Steam; you might have purchased it from Steam but installed it like any other game on your computer. I'm not entirely sure what the issue is, I only had one AMD A6 processor and haven’t tried gaming on it so can’t say for sure what’s happening. Did you check for driver updates from the laptop manufacturer? Perhaps this special edition included extra graphics that make it more demanding on systems.

Run a driver update scan to see if there are any available.

I’ve checked the support site, but it seems like the best course of action is to try a different troubleshooting method.
