someone knows how to upgrade from XP Home/MC to XP Pro? during the process I saw that no product key would appear. I used several copies of XP with one key, but it didn’t work here either. I remember the original system had Windows XP Media Center edition installed. People say you can switch a home copy to a Pro copy using the Pro CD, but when I tried that, the installation still wouldn’t recognize the key I have. I haven’t found any online solutions. I’d rather keep my files and programs on the drive instead of reformatting it. My goal is just to access the desktop and use Windows XP.

Do you have an upgraded product code or a complete version key for XP Pro? It seems you likely require an upgrade key for it to function properly.

The license terms for Windows specify one product key per computer. Without a valid volume license from Microsoft, this is treated as piracy. Discussing piracy for any software, including Windows, goes against community guidelines. You should obtain an upgrade key instead. Upgrading to the Pro edition will remove Media Center. Do you really require the Pro version?

You must briefly turn off the server-side certificate revocation check when using the internet, since disabling it would stop your connection to Microsoft's activation servers.

I haven’t found much guidance online about upgrade keys. The only tutorial I came across was for upgrading from home to Pro. It looks like few people take the time to do this, so where can I obtain an upgrade key? I’m unsure why a single key might work on several machines anyway. Regarding the upgrade process itself, it seems like canceling isn’t really an option—I don’t feel the need for Pro, but if I could get one, I’d probably want to. Right now, getting the Windows installation is my main goal.

Windows XP MCE is essentially XP Pro, but it includes all the media extensions. According to what I've heard, it comes on two discs: one for the Pro version and another with additional features for the media center. Only using the first disc provides a complete Pro installation, while skipping the second disc leaves you with just the basic setup.

Sure, I understand. The media center was already set up on the device, and I haven't customized it myself.

My prediction matches yours completely. Backup for XP ceased more than five years ago, and it wasn't available for purchase much earlier. Unless you discover an item on eBay, which I worry is unlikely.
