The Windows picture app is now stopping from moving images to their specific folders.
Hi, I just found out this weekend that the standard Windows photo app can't put new photos into folders anymore. i have been lazy with my photos and only copy ones i need to use, then preview them in the app before using them, so i didn't notice anything changed until now. Apparently, this is how it has been for a long time. i googled and found that other people are having this issue too. now i have several months of unsorted photos backed up on my C drive in the Pictures folder instead of my D drive where i set the import folder to be. i thought it was going there because i was making daily folders. My fault for not checking sooner and being lazy about it. i am using Windows 10. does anyone know how to fix this problem? i need to be able to import photos every day with an automatic folder creation. is there better software to use when importing from cameras or SD cards with an adapter that will automatically organize them into folders based on the date? i would like to use Canon's software but sometimes i have to import from other SD cards with my adapter, and as far as i know, Canon's software doesn't work with adapters. is there a safe program that can automatically archive photos onto C drive into daily folders based on EXIF data? i was looking at PhotoMove software and thinking of trying it but wondering if anyone has used it or if there are better recommendations since this will take too much manual effort to do.
Here is the first thing you should do: copy all those photos to C:\ even if they are not yet backed up. Even if some of them are mixed up in at least you will still have access to the photos safely. Just keep a copy ready for later use. It might be better to move everything to another place called D:\ or something like that, so you can save every folder and photo. You should back up your data just before trying any new software or doing anything else with it. Always back up files first. Don't move them; instead of moving them, copy them over. Then here is the second thing: "Do I have SD cards with an adapter that automatically brings photos into folders every single day? If you use Canon software sometimes I have to import photos from other SD cards using my adapter and as far as I know the Canon software doesn't work well with adapters?" Please test this out. Take the rest of the SD cards...
First, you need to copy those photos from C: to D:. That means moving them, not deleting the originals on C:. Just in case something goes wrong later, make sure they are safe. Put them somewhere else like a second drive or a box labeled "Photos Safe." It is better to have more copies than less. Always back up your files and data before trying any new software. Don't just copy-paste; don't move the files from one place to another without making a backup first.
Second, you are asking about an SD card with an adapter that automatically sorts photos into folders by date? If so, I would probably use Canon software or maybe a free app instead of that specific card reader setup. Sometimes, even with adapters, things don't work as expected. It is better to just try the cards yourself first. Make sure your SD card has write protection on it and test it in different card readers too.
Search Google for "organize photos by date" or "move photos automatically." Here are some ideas you can check: https://www.mjbpix.com/automatically-mov...exif-date/ https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-cc/usi...hotos.html You should find similar programs easily. Try different search words like "exif" to see if they work better.
Again, back up all your data before testing any new thing or app. It is very important not to risk your main computer while doing this test. Use a separate computer or machine just for checking out the software so you are safe with your original files on the hard drive.
