Hi,
I only realized this issue this weekend. The standard windows photo app stopped importing photos into folders. I’ve been careless with my photos, copying only what I needed and previewing them, so I didn’t notice the change before. It seems this has been happening for a while now. I searched online and found others experiencing the same problem. Now I have months of unsorted photos saved on my C drive instead of the folder I intended to use. I thought it would go there automatically and create daily folders. My mistake was being lazy and not checking sooner. I’m using Windows 10.

Do you know of any solution to this? I need to import photos daily with automatic folder creation. Is there better software for importing from cameras or SD cards with an adapter that can automatically organize photos into folders each day? I usually use Canon software, but sometimes I have to use other SD cards with adapters and I’m not sure it works well with them. I also considered PhotoMove, but I wasn’t sure if anyone had used it or if there are better options. Manually organizing everything would be very time-consuming.

Start by transferring all photos from C: to a backup location, even if they’re mixed up—at least you’ll have access.
If needed, consider moving everything to D and setting up another secondary backup for all folders and photos, both sorted and unsorted.
Before using any new software, always back up your data and files. Use copying rather than moving.
Check if SD cards with adapters can automatically import photos daily—my experience shows the Canon software doesn’t support this feature.

The initial step involves transferring all photos from C: to a backup location, even if they are mixed up—this ensures you still have access.
It’s recommended to store everything in bulk at D: and ideally another secondary storage area for all folders and files, regardless of whether they’re sorted or not.

Check if SD cards with adapters can automatically import photos daily. I’ve tried this with Canon software; sometimes other SD cards with adapters work, but I’m unsure if Canon supports adapters.
Test the process with another SD card to confirm functionality. Verify that the SD card is write-protected. Also try Canon and other SD cards with different readers.
Search online for “sort photos and file photos by date” – useful guides exist (links provided). Adjust search terms as needed, including “exif.”
Make sure all information is backed up before testing any product. If possible, set up a test computer to avoid risking your main system.
