It appears Windows 10 often resets your start tiles when it updates automatically. To keep your shortcuts intact, you might want to save them manually or use a different method for saving. There’s no built-in option to stop the reset entirely, but you can try restoring your preferences through settings or third-party tools.

He refers to regular updates rather than just feature updates, as they occur twice a year. The issue you're experiencing with the Start Menu being wiped might be related to one of these update cycles.

I was mainly acting in a playful way just for fun when I sent the picture, though if he was making changes or something similar, he probably wouldn't have used those words. I’m not sure why he mentioned reset—it could relate to the fact that a Windows update often requires you to restart and go through setup, which feels like starting fresh. It seems the problem is that updating Windows resets the start menu. @Subterfudge we could need more information.

Sorry, I meant to restart (turn off and back on before the Windows update starts). This happened two nights ago. My PC was running yesterday morning with all programs closed the night before, and the start menu tiles were back to default, but everything else stayed the same (background, start button, color scheme, etc.)
