The water pump is emitting a strong buzzing noise.
Hi everyone, my pump is producing this unpleasant buzzing noise suddenly. This has happened three times with a different pump each time, so it seems like something about my actions might be the cause. I’m not sure what’s wrong except possibly using too much biocide, which could be contributing to the buildup inside the pump. Here’s a video of the sound for reference. Any assistance would be really helpful!
Are you still experiencing flow? D5's are relatively quiet, so this sound isn't something I'd normally anticipate. When you're setting up your loops, are you confirming that your pump always has water flowing? How long does each pump operate before it produces this noise? Is the noise consistent across all three units?
The problem seems environmental rather than mechanical, meaning it's unlikely to be random variations from different pumps. We should try to identify the cause together.
Could you share a photo of your loop and specify the order of the loops?

The problem appears to be environmental, so it shouldn't be random variations from different pumps. We should try to identify what's causing it.

This could be something you've already addressed, but have you verified that the noise originates from the pump itself and not from a wire or impact on a fan blade? (I've experienced this before).
Just to check—based on your video, it appears to come from the pump. I'm wondering if you've looked into other possible causes.
Does the noise cease after about 20 minutes? Is it happening during startup, or does it follow a specific pattern?
It doesn't do it at startup but after 20 minutes or so it willl. Which lasts for a minute or two then it goes away. I can confirm that no wire is in the way though I wish it was that easy. My only thought is its the biocide causing it, maybe I am using too much?
No, that shouldn't be a problem. It seems like a failing impeller, which could happen due to too much cavitation of water. This might cause the sound you're hearing, but it would likely be a continuous noise rather than something intermittent. If you have time, testing by draining the loop and running the pump in a simple setup with just a bucket or reservoir could help. If the noise persists, it may point to an issue with how the pump interacts with the flow in your system.
I'm swapping out the tubing and opting for a silver coil instead. It needs to fit at the ky end, and I'm pretty sure three pumps in a row wouldn't have caused the same issue. Might an air bubble be responsible for the noise?

Hello everyone, my pump is suddenly producing this unpleasant buzzing noise. This has happened three times, and it's the third time with a different pump, so it’s clear something is wrong. I’m not sure what’s causing it except possibly using too much biocide, which might be clogging the pump. Here’s a video of the sound for reference. Any advice would be really helpful!
And I think you were right. Today it sounded very strange, almost like it was trying to start but then kept shutting off. It seemed more intense, a buzzing that was louder. I suspect the impeller might be broken. My concern is what caused this. I’ve changed the pump now—it’s my fourth one. Clearly, something about my actions or inactions is affecting the pump. I’ve ordered new tubing, so tomorrow I’ll replace it and share pictures of the installation. Right now I have the EK-XTOP D5 pump again, just with a different top.
Can you share an image of your loop with a flow diagram? From what I observed in the video, it seems straightforward, but there are issues when continuing through the pumps. I used the same D5 for six years and it still functions properly.
