I made the upgrade and now my key appears to be changed. The control panel shows I’ve fully activated Windows 10 Pro, but I’m not sure if that’s correct.

Automatically apply your existing login and activation details for a clean Windows 10 installation. Include the required key.

Clean installation isn't feasible because the Windows 10 key is already linked to your device via your Microsoft account. Activation is only available through the free Windows Update service, not a full clean install. I confirmed this directly with Microsoft. You need to upgrade from Windows 8.1 first.

No need to go through Windows 8.1; you can start fresh with Windows 10 directly. Installing from media drives is possible but may require additional steps depending on your setup.

I've learned that 30 days following the upgrade your Windows 7 or 8.1 license will transform into a Windows 10 license.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I just started my Win10 RTM VM and it functions properly. It outputs the same Microsoft keys we received.
