After my recent upgrade to a 5950X on a Gigabyte X470 Gaming 7, I observed an unusual noise under specific conditions, particularly while using AIDA64 Cache & Memory Benchmark. It seems like coil whine is present, though it sounds quite sharp or even sharp, especially during the benchmark tests... I recorded the sound as well as a multithreaded CB20 run. The noise becomes much more noticeable during the benchmark, especially when checking RAM speed and L2/L3 cache performance (see attached). All fans were off except the PSU fan, which turned on once during the AIDA64 test. Other background sounds mainly came from my breathing, the hard drive, and the water pump (noting D5 ran at its lowest speed during this recording). At the moment, the 5950X is stock, with no RAM overclocking to 3600MHz. Is this kind of noise typical? With my 2700X, I’ve never heard anything like it before... Are others experiencing similar issues when paired with a 5000-series chip? These sounds are also noticeable outside benchmarks, though less intense, such as in Fusion 360 or when launching certain programs. P.S. I removed the quieter segments from the AIDA64 recording. Sometimes lower loads also affect performance. For instance, the RAM benchmark doesn't reach 100W on the CPU. I plan to run a test with a reduced power setting tomorrow to check if this impacts results. EDIT: I rechecked using a shorter polling interval—it actually exceeded 120W once... possibly due to coil whine. That sound was different from what I'm used to with the GPUs we've had before.
