I clicked on my USB drive and it showed up as a strange shortcut. I had to tap it again to access my pendrive folder. When I removed a file, it reappeared. Help needed.

It seems everything functions as expected. I consistently encounter the same results when connecting a pendrive and accessing its contents. As long as data can be read and written, it’s okay. By the way, what version of Linux or Windows are you using?

It seems the version you're using won't offer the same drive access as Windows 7, which is likely why Rufus is interested. I might need someone more familiar with Windows 10 and 11 and Rufus to help with this. But at least I'm trying to figure it out myself.
