Hey everyone, I just set up a Ryzen 7 5800X/6950XT system in May 2023 using an NZXT 850 watt power supply. Over the past month, I've noticed something odd: whenever I touch the metal parts of USB-C, USB-A, or Micro-USB cables, it gives me a slight shock. It's not painful, but it's surprising. When I connect my Logitech G905 TKL Wireless keyboard, the metal chassis emits a faint electrical hum—feelable but not painful.
All my devices are powered through a RocketFish 12 Outlet Surge Protector, which is connected to my PC, two monitors, and a soundbar. The Metal Corsair 4000D Airflow doesn’t cause any shocks; I can touch metal on the case without feeling anything. However, the power cord from the PSU seems to be the issue—my previous build with a R5 1600/GTX 970 and a 750W Corsair PSU never had this problem.
I’m concerned about the electrical setup in my current rental apartment, thinking it might be faulty or the outlet could be problematic. The performance of my rig is great, but I’m worried that a fault in the PSU or its cords could damage everything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It seems your setup isn't properly grounded. If it's in the outlet or apartment wiring, you may have limited options—check that all cords and power strips include a ground connection.
