I just changed my system from an ASUS Prime X570 Pro with a 5600X CPU to an ASRock X870 with a 9600X CPU.
I also replaced the power supply because the previous one didn’t work properly after testing.
I now have a modular PSU with a label saying "600 watt" on it, but I can’t locate where it should go.
I disassembled and reassembled everything carefully, ensuring all connections are solid, nothing is inside or on the motherboard, and I’ve used two CPU coolers.
Can you help figure out what might be wrong with my build?
A checklist to do: https://forums. Full system specs, including PSU make and model (or part number) is? Also, how old the PSU is, and was the PSU bought new or used/refurbished? It plugs into Nvidia RTX 40- or 50-series GPU. If you do not have such GPU, you don't need to use that PCI-E power cable at all. With so little info; dead: CPU, MoBo, RAM or all of them are dead.
It seems there might be an issue with the circuit somewhere. It could also be due to a touch between the CPU and the case. I recommend not connecting anything else except the CPU, memory, and power supply. Use the on-chip GPU instead, keep the motherboard out of the case, and plug it into the monitor. Turn it on. If the board works, there might be a faulty board or bent CPU pins. Also, check if another PSU is connected, as the short could be there.
Is it fully turned off or does it restart by itself after a short delay?
I mentioned the PSU is brand new since I tested the last one and it wasn't functioning properly. All components were new parts including a Cooler master MWE 850 v3 PSU, ASRock x870 pro RS, 9600x CPU, 2X16GB KINGBANK DDR5 6000MHZ RAM, and the only remaining item from the previous setup was an xfx speedster MERC319 RADEON RX 7800XT. It seemed to be in the system for about five months before I chose to upgrade completely and am still facing challenges with my current setup.
My PSU is a cooler master MWE good 850v3. It's a decent result at the least. I'm sure it's functioning properly since I tested it with a PSU tester, which confirmed my previous concerns.
