In gaming terms, the 2600 seems to edge out slightly, while the 2700 shines more for occasional tuning. I’d likely choose the 2700 myself or a more recent 3000 chip for that reason.

The only way it would make sense would be at a 2700x size and it should cost less than a 3600.

For $20 it's reasonable if you can leverage the additional cores. But unless you're earning from your work, I'd prefer sticking with the 2600. Ideally, the 3600 would be a better choice. The 2600 is quite outdated.

It's around $80 to $100 more than the $2600... Got it. Thanks! 2700x isn't really available here... But it's much cheaper than a $3600 that's definitely overpriced, unfortunately.

Proceed with the 2700 non-x tasks. It might be about 10% less IPC compared to the 3600, but you'll have 4 additional threads handling the work.

In that scenario, a 2700 for $20 extra seems reasonable. I’d choose it, adding two more cores and more threads (it’s 8 cores or 16 threads, right?)

2700 lags in stock configurations since the 65w TDP limits it to around 3.4ghz turbo. Switching to an all-core 4ghz OC will boost performance significantly. Most units should reach close to the target speed.

I moved from 3600 to 2700 and was happy with the result. I purchased the 3600 for $120, sold it for $175. The 2700 was bought for $100 and I’m glad I made the change. I play at 1440p, which might be why it makes a difference.
