It seems you're unsure about the compatibility of upgrading from Ryzen 5 3600 to Ryzen 7 5800x3d. You might need to update your BIOS or adjust Windows settings for a smooth transition. Swapping components directly usually works, but checking compatibility first is wise.

You probably need to refresh the BIOS on your motherboard. Just let me know your exact model and the BIOS version you're using, and I'll help identify it. To view the current BIOS version, open the BIOS settings and check the front screen.

It’s highly likely you’ll need to refresh your BIOS. Even if your motherboard doesn’t require the update for your new CPU, it’s still wise to do it to ensure everything runs smoothly. That’s the only other consideration.

It’s wise to consider updating the BIOS even if your system already runs with 5800X3D compatibility, since this feature was introduced four years ago and significant enhancements have been made to support X3D CPUs over time.

The latest version might already be sufficient, but updating is still advised.

When you need to inquire, it’s likely you should try, particularly if you purchased your motherboard before the 5800X3D was released.

Ah, Okay. Thanks everyone for the info. I will try to update the Bios although I've never done that before. Here is the Mobo I purchased in 2019: MSI PERFORMANCE GAMING X470 GAMING PLUS AM4 ATX AMD Motherboard - Newegg.com I'm not at home at the moment to check exactly what Bios I am running, but I have never updated it before. I'll check when I get home.

Update the BIOS first, then rearrange the CPU settings.

Please confirm the BIOS version upon returning. If you need assistance updating it, I’ve updated hundreds before. Let me know if you’d like help with that.
