Hello everyone, my Opensense box has been having issues with the 10Gb fiber connection for some time. It can only handle the basic blocklist at speeds around 8Gb per second to the ISP. After a recent upgrade, I’m now limited to about 3.8Gb even when the CPU is at full capacity. My current model is an E3-1270V3 with 32GB of RAM. I’m seeking suggestions for affordable upgrades that could ease this bottleneck. I’ve noticed some people using an I9 processor on a 25Gb connection. I don’t have much choice but to consider newer Xeon servers or options available on the used market, aiming to keep costs under $500 USD. Appreciate any advice you can offer!

Consider it a 12-year-old CPU. Even a setup like AM4 with a 5300G—basically the weakest Zen3 APUs—would more than double its performance, not just because of newer features. I don’t think a Xeon is really needed here. On the flip side (and I know this), it’s only 8Gbps slow, right?

I was planning to transfer my Truenas to Proxmox. This should make room for the Ryzen 7 3700X. I’m considering this option and want to check its performance.

The recent update improves performance noticeably, though it's not a significant jump. The term refers to the latest optimization changes made in the software.
