We need the ability to pick our updates and parts of them. I only require Windows to handle the updates, I can manage Intel independently. Microsoft is frustrating me (just like Apple is when my iPod forgets to trust this computer). When I install the newest Intel graphics drivers using their own driver tool, I receive a Windows update—not for Windows itself, but specifically for my Intel drivers. Windows insists on outdated Intel drivers, and I've tried them; subtitles and video content get corrupted. If I let Windows handle it, I can update my drivers myself. The next time I use my PC, Windows Update will tell me my drivers are outdated and prompt me to update. Here’s what happens with the old drivers Windows Update suggests: this affects VLC video subtitles, game visuals, and Windows media players. Five videos I didn’t troubleshoot because the only option is to wait for Microsoft to release updated drivers. Feel free to share your frustrations about Windows Update in Windows 10 below.

This was the primary reason I stayed on 7; the other issues were memory leaks and spying.

The main concern isn't any IPS feature, as it only tracks your traffic unless you use a VPN, which still allows monitoring. With the PRO version, you can skip updates and the bothersome popups that prompted me to switch... I also have the PRO edition for Windows without issues. Memory leaks aren’t a problem for me.

Intel drivers ensure your hardware works properly with the latest software updates. If you're using an integrated graphics solution, it still relies on these drivers for optimal performance.

The update is unavoidable, though you're right you can push it back a bit.

The "spying" seems like an exaggerated reaction, since the internet is simple—everyone online is already being monitored by more harmful forces than Microsoft.

Updates can be skipped simply by using a trick.

Playing at a lower resolution but using PCMR frame rates. Planning to buy a 980 or 980ti on Black Friday at Fry's or Micro Center. Still thinking it might not be an issue even with a GPU, since similar problems appear in VLC, iTunes, and other non-game apps. It’s working well now; I’m scheduling the update for later so I can stick to Intel drivers.

Sure, you could change the registry settings to make it do more things, but why wait until after the release of all DX12-only titles? I won’t switch my operating system until I need to or really want to, because the newer OS is much better.
