I have some free time to upgrade my laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 11. My main worry is whether it will impact other programs I rely on. Two things concern me: First, I have NFS MW installed that works well. Will updating to Windows 11 cause any issues? If so, are compatibility settings a reliable fallback? Second, I have important software running across different Windows versions inside VMWare. Does upgrading to Windows 11 risk damaging it? I’ve already spent weeks trying to sort this out and don’t want Windows 11 to trigger another headache. Is it safe to move to Windows 11? Specifically, for the 22H2 version?

there's a chance it'll work, i also dont want to assume any sort of guarantee that it will. you're theoretically replacing the entire operating system underneath the application, unexpected stuff is just bound to happen occasionally.

The only answer here is to make a system image backup so you can revert back if something does break. I have been upgrading many machines at my work from 10 to 11 without much issue. We saw far more problems going from 7 to 10. That being said, if these things are important to you the only way you can be sure is to backup your existing configuration as is. Software that can make an image of your computer is going to be the best option here (Acronis comes to mind, but I'm sure there are others). Since your VMs are basically images themselves, they should be fine as long as VMWare works on Windows 11 - which it does. However, the only way to be certain is to have a backup. I'd definitely expect VMWare to work. NFS, being a little older could run into issues.

I understand. I'll ensure the ISO files are backed up alongside the VMWare installations. Fingers crossed everything runs smoothly. Most Wanted is a comforting habit, similar to the original San Andreas. It won't change the world if they stop functioning properly, but it's time to shift focus.

Using bootable USB drives to change systems removes all apps from your old OS, and VMware is seen as a software by any operating system—just remember this. Thank you.
