UNOOP. That’s the name, right? Indian way of saying it. It’s not “an” or “up”—it’s “oop.” Don’t worry about the accent, I get it’s tough.

Many titles rely on Steam for their backend, even when sold on physical formats. I recall purchasing RACE 07 in a tangible form and finding a Steam key tucked inside the packaging. Nobody imagined how deeply that would affect my experience.

Congratulations. It's okay if you avoid using Steam. Your point about boxed games being more affordable doesn't apply to indie titles that don't come in boxed form. Indie games are what give Steam its unique character. High-quality games are typically priced reasonably. If you're considering buying a boxed version for savings, feel free to do so. No one is preventing you. I prefer Steam because it lets me download any game I own across different computers. This flexibility makes using Steam valuable in my view.

Certainly, I noted the mention of CD keys that usually accompany discs. Appreciate you bringing it to my attention.

Also, Steam is the top choice. I once received a CD for NFS Hot Pursuit. Shut up, it was a pirated copy. Just the box was genuine.

Everyone saying you're in trouble when you lose the disc is wrong. If it's an original copy, it will get saved to his Uplay/Steam/Origin library so he can download it again later. I remember buying four physical copies of AC games at a super cheap price at a game convention—each one was added to my Uplay library. The same applies to BF3 and BF4 on Origin, and I also have some games on Steam in that way.

That's a Ubisoft release, not Steam. If you're looking for a cheaper option, check G2A.com right now—it's around £23.

Ubisoft maintains its own platform on UPlay, which usually doesn’t offer substantial discounts compared to Steam. Nevertheless, during Steam promotions you can still find Ubisoft titles at attractive prices. Purchasing a physical retail version often allows you to claim a free digital copy via Steam registration, so even if you misplace the disc or CD key, you can re-download it from Steam and take advantage of updates, community features, and more. Steam provides an extensive library featuring major publishers and indie developers, offering one of the largest selections online. It also supports codes from retailers like Humble Bundle and other sites, making it ideal for building a comprehensive game collection that can be saved, transferred, or backed up. Additional perks include cloud saves, social features, music, trading cards, and special events such as free weekend access. While Steam isn’t always the cheapest option year-round—prices often match retail rates—occasional sales provide significant discounts, sometimes reducing popular games by 33% to 90%, making items like £1 or $2 games accessible for much less than their original cost.
